How Does Trenching Work?
Trenching & Excavating - A lot of work is required in the construction business. Trenching & Excavating involve digging trenches for a variety of reasons. They can be for utilities, to install piping, for parking, underground cables, and drainage systems etc. Trenching & Excavating can also include digging ditches for septic tanks and waste water plants.
In the construction industry there are two main types of trenching or excavating. First is called vertical trenching and the other is horizontal tiling. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages depending on the soil type, the size of the excavating machine, type of concrete being used, and the complexity of the project. Below is an overview of the two types of trenching, as well as the benefits of each.
Vertical Trenching - This is considered to be the most versatile of all the tiling techniques. It is used in many excavation jobs including parking lots, sewers, pipes, water lines, storm drains, etc. The reason this technique is so versatile is that it can be used to perform a number of tasks. For example, if the dirt needs to be moved a long distance away from the building, it can be excavated with this method instead of using a truck or pallet. This also allows for the removal of waste materials such as sand, since it is heavier than clay. Also, the equipment does not need to be placed on top of the dirt, as in the case of placing a truck on top of the sand.
If the site to be excavated does not have a large amount of compacted soil, then a layer of vegetation can be used to help seal the sides of the hole. This layer is made from high quality waterproof materials, such as plastic mulch. Mulching also helps keep the water out of the trenches. Finally, the soil can be added to the trench, and this last layer can be finished using a tiling tool or a cement mixture.
Concrete Trenching - Also known as spade augmentation, concrete trenching can be used when excavation is near the surface of the earth. When planning to perform an excavation, a hole will first be dug. The depth will depend on what the project is for, but it should be at least one foot below the grade of the soil. Once the hole is dug, the contractor will begin raising the excavating equipment. The length of time of the trenching can vary greatly depending on what is being constructed. Usually, it takes about four days to complete a hole of one foot diameter by using standard concrete.
A trenched construction is only as strong as its weakest link. This is why concrete is used in construction. Concrete is used because it is extremely sturdy. This makes concrete an excellent choice for walls. In addition to being strong, concrete is also incredibly dense. This makes concrete an excellent choice for constructing walls that must withstand very heavy weights.
Trenching is also used in other construction projects, including grading. Grading requires digging around the structure to create a graded surface. This improves the accuracy of the finished project. Unlike grading, trenching does not require as much excavation. Trenching is also used to prepare areas for installation of drainage systems and other large projects.
When trenching, a trench filled with a mixture of cement and sand is drawn. This creates a very deep hole that contains the concrete. Concrete is then pumped into the hole using pumping equipment.
